What is the Best CBD Honey for Baking?

You can use virtually any CBD Honey for baking. But we think the best CBD honey for baking is Populum Orange + CBD Raw Honey. Made in partnership with Sweet Summer Farms in Phoenix, Arizona, Populum’s CBD-infused honey is a great natural sweetener for beverages (and think beyond just coffees and teas) and is a unique ingredient for baked goods or cooked dishes. Each 9oz bottle of this organic CBD honey contains 100mg of full spectrum hemp extract full of cannabidiol (CBD) and other naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes.

How to Use CBD Honey in Baking

Honey in and of itself is an awesome ingredient. Infuse a bit of CBD into it and the honey just becomes that much better. CBD Honey can be used just like regular honey in drinks, cooking, and even beauty products! Here are some more tips on how to use CBD honey in baking:

  1. CBD honey is an excellent substitute for sugar and, in most recipes, use it as a 1:1 replacement.
  2. But keep in mind that honey also adds additional moisture to a recipe. It’s a good idea to subtract 1/4 of liquid from the recipe if substituting honey for sugar.
  3. Honey bakes faster than sugar, so lower your oven temperature by 25 degrees to prevent overbrowning.

Benefits of Baking with CBD Honey

Baking with CBD Honey – or any CBD ingredient – offers a variety of potential benefits. Some of the benefits of enjoying a bakery item made with CBD Honey include:

Accurate Dosing – You can easily determine the amount of CBD in your baked good by measuring the amount of CBD honey used in your recipe.

Easy to Use – CBD Honey is a versatile ingredient and can be used in virtually any recipe that calls for honey.

Long-Lasting Effects of CBD – When CBD is ingested as an edible, it is processed through your digestive system. While this means it might take longer to feel the effects of CBD, the effects after eating a CBD edible or baked good typically last much long – up to 2-4 hours longer.

Baking Tips When Using CBD

Generally, you can use CBD as an ingredient the same way you would use other ingredients. That being said, there are a few things you should know about baking with CBD. Here are a few important baking tips when using CBD:

Watch Your Temperature

Whenever you bake with CBD, you must keep the baking temperature in mind. The boiling point of CBD is 320-356 degrees Fahrenheit. Baking CBD at too high of a temperature could cause your CBD to evaporate, ultimately making the CBD ineffective. To prevent destroying the beneficial active compounds in CBD, don’t bake at temperatures above ~355 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time.

Calculating CBD Dosage in Baked CBD Edibles

If you want to create an effective CBD baked good, it’s important you calculate the amount of CBD in each serving. For example, how much CBD is in one cookie or one slice of cake. To calculate the amount of CBD in your baked good, you divide the total amount of CBD used by the number of servings made. If you make 12 cookies with 100mg of CBD oil in the recipe, you’ll have ~8.33 mg (100mg / 12 servings) of CBD per cookie.

At the same time, if you want to make sure each serving has a specific amount of CBD, you can multiple the amount of CBD you want in each serving by the total number of servings. So if you wanted to make 12 cookies with 10mg CBD each, your recipe should have a total of 120mg CBD.

Storing CBD Baked Goods

Once you’ve baked your CBD-infused treats, you’ll want to keep them fresh as long as possible. Not only will this preserve flavor but it will help preserve the potency of your baked good. CBD is extremely sensitive to light and heat. So, store your CBD edibles in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for optimal taste and results.

Whether you want to bake a delicious CBD-infused treat for yourself, or want to share this unique CBD edible with a friend or loved one, we hope you enjoy this recipe for CBD Honey Spice Cake and have found some useful baking tips to ensure your next baking challenge is a success.
